Residents of Oakhaven are bursting with pride this week after local baker, Sarah Miller, clinched the top prize at the National Pie Championships held in Orlando, Florida, this past weekend. Miller, owner of “Sarah’s Sweet Surrender” on Main Street, wowed judges with her innovative “Maple Pecan Dream” pie, a tantalizing combination of locally sourced pecans and Vermont maple syrup.

“I’m still a little speechless,” Miller said in an interview this morning, her voice thick with emotion. “I’ve been baking pies since I was a little girl, helping my grandmother in the kitchen. To have my pie recognized on a national level is just… it’s a dream come true.”

The National Pie Championships attract bakers from across the country, showcasing a wide array of sweet and savory creations. This year’s competition was particularly fierce, with over 500 entries in the professional division alone. Miller’s “Maple Pecan Dream” stood out for its delicate crust, perfectly balanced sweetness, and creative use of regional ingredients.

“The crust was flaky and golden brown, the filling was rich and decadent without being overly sweet, and the presentation was just stunning,” said head judge, Robert Thompson, a renowned pastry chef from New York City. “It was clear from the first bite that this was something special.”

Miller’s victory is not just a personal triumph, but a win for Oakhaven. Mayor Patricia Thompson (no relation to the judge) praised Miller for her dedication and contribution to the community. “Sarah’s pies are a staple at every town event,” Mayor Thompson said. “She’s a true asset to Oakhaven, and we’re incredibly proud of her accomplishment.”

In celebration of her victory, Sarah’s Sweet Surrender will be offering a special “Maple Pecan Dream” pie discount all week. Stop by and taste the award-winning pie that’s putting Oakhaven on the map!
