Residents of Oakhaven are bursting with pride this week after local baker, Sarah Miller, clinched the top prize at the National Pie Championships held in Orlando, Florida, this past weekend. Miller, owner of âSarahâs Sweet Surrenderâ on Main Street, wowed judges with her innovative âMaple Pecan Dreamâ pie, a tantalizing combination of locally sourced pecans and Vermont maple syrup.
âIâm still a little speechless,â Miller said in an interview this morning, her voice thick with emotion. âIâve been baking pies since I was a little girl, helping my grandmother in the kitchen. To have my pie recognized on a national level is just⌠itâs a dream come true.â

The National Pie Championships attract bakers from across the country, showcasing a wide array of sweet and savory creations. This yearâs competition was particularly fierce, with over 500 entries in the professional division alone. Millerâs âMaple Pecan Dreamâ stood out for its delicate crust, perfectly balanced sweetness, and creative use of regional ingredients.
âThe crust was flaky and golden brown, the filling was rich and decadent without being overly sweet, and the presentation was just stunning,â said head judge, Robert Thompson, a renowned pastry chef from New York City. âIt was clear from the first bite that this was something special.â
Millerâs victory is not just a personal triumph, but a win for Oakhaven. Mayor Patricia Thompson (no relation to the judge) praised Miller for her dedication and contribution to the community. âSarahâs pies are a staple at every town event,â Mayor Thompson said. âSheâs a true asset to Oakhaven, and weâre incredibly proud of her accomplishment.â
