AUSTIN, Texas – Bexar County Precinct 2 Constable Michelle Barrientes Vela and other top officials from her agency charged the county for expensive hotel rooms, meals and a state open records training course but skipped the training itself, public records obtained by the KSAT 12 Defenders confirm. While Barrientes Vela, Chief Deputy Anthony Castillo and Capt. Records from the Bexar County Auditor's Office show the county paid $250 per person for Barrientes Vela, Castillo and Garcia to attend the two days of sessions. By all indications, it appears Barrientes Vela and members of her agency could have utilized the additional training. Barrientes Vela did not respond to repeated requests to be interviewed for this story.

SAN ANTONIO – Making the community a safe place is what drives Bexar County Court 13 Judge Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez. Last November, Gonzalez was the first openly gay judge to be elected in Bexar County, and she runs one of two domestic violence courts. "Bexar County unfortunately hails as the record-holder for the most number of domestic violence cases, child abuse cases and drug cases in the state." HB 3529 will allow Gonzalez to establish a drug court within her court to provide court-supervised drug treatment. "We're going to try all those different things to turn this ship around that we know as a domestic violence epidemic in San Antonio and Bexar County," Gonzalez said.

To some people, the 10- by 12-foot house doesn't look like much, but to Chavez, who was homeless, it's a dream come true. Not too long ago, he was alone sleeping on park benches when another homeless man led Chavez to Last Chance Ministries' church center for the homeless, located at 1311 N. Zarzamora St."They get to eat. They get to go to the closet and get some clothes," Pastor Jimmy Robles said of the homeless people who come through his ministry's doors. MANOR, Texas – A rare rattlesnake was discovered in Manor, just north of Austin, following a very wet September for South Texas. The pattern-less diamondback rattlesnake was born with a mutation similar to albinism in humans, according to the Manor Police Department. Snake sightings could increase as rain continuesManor Animal Control took the snake and cited an increase in rainfall in the area as the reason for increased snake sightings. More than 60 venomous snakes have been removed from the area in the last month, according to a Facebook post.

Stoneking was riding a Lime rental scooter at 4 a.m. Saturday on Munger Boulevard when he fell off and called his friend Kenneth Moore, according to Fox 4 in Dallas. Moore told Fox 4 that Stoneking called him after the accident and asked him to order a Lyft ride for him. Lime is cooperating with the investigation and an autopsy is being conducted by the Dallas medical examiner. Stoneking’s father said the injuries don’t match up with the police report which states a Lime scooter was found broken in half at the scene but there was no other debris. Electric scooters have been gaining popularity this summer with Lime, Bird and Blue Duck available in San Antonio.

Reinke was arrested Saturday by rangers at Grand Teton National Park for drunk and disorderly conduct, according to a press release. The press release also stated that Reinke appeared to be intoxicated and argumentative when he was cited and rangers believe the bison incident occurred shortly after the traffic stop. Yellowstone rangers were able to connect Reinke’s extensive history with the viral bison taunting video after receiving several wildlife harassment reports from concerned visitors. Rangers at Glacier National Park discovered Reinke Thursday at the Many Glacier Hotel after they were alerted to a disturbance in the hotel's dining room. He was arrested again and transported to Helena, where Yellowstone rangers took Reinke to Mammoth Hot Springs, where he was booked into the Yellowstone jail, according to a press release.

SAN ANTONIO – The rainbow crosswalk is officially being painted at Main Avenue and Evergreen Street in the heart of San Antonio’s gay business district. The crosswalk will be finished just in time for the city’s Pride parade on Saturday. Pride San Antonio raised nearly $20,000 for the crosswalk, while the city paid $12,668 toward the $32,000 project. Originally drawn in chalk during the San Antonio Pride Parade in the summer of 2017, and appearing again this month on a Fiesta medal, the powerful symbol of LGBTQ+ pride will soon become a reality. At Senior Fiesta at the Pearl Stable on Tuesday, Treviño said his Fiesta medal raised more than $10,000 for the crosswalk so far, and Fiesta has only just begun. Rainbow Crosswalk Fiesta medals are being sold for $15 each at businesses along Main Avenue, near the intersection where the actual crosswalk will be. Moore also is wanted in Detroit, where prosecutors allege that he sexually assaulted three girls. BENTON, Kentucky – A 15-year-old male student opened fire at Marshall County High School in Kentucky, killing two students and injuring 17 other people Tuesday, state officials said. Bailey Holt, 15, was one of the two student victims killed in the school shooting. We rushed to the high school, and they wouldn’t let us get through,” Secret told WKRN. Preston Ryan Cope, 15, has been identified as the other deceased victim in the school shooting, according to The Associated Press.
