SAN ANTONIO – Area firefighters battled a massive trailer fire in South Bexar County overnight, the Bexar County Sheriff's office said. The fire was called in just before 2 a.m. at a home in the 350 block of Hallmark Path, not far from Highway 281 and Pleasanton Road and just south of Loop 1604. Emergency responders said they arrived to find the trailer fully-involved. The Bexar County Fire Department said they were cautious with the fire because part of the structure collapsed. SAN ANTONIO – A hefty federal grant is going toward helping combat gang activity in Bexar County. The $230,000 grant was awarded to Bexar County Juvenile Probation, which focuses on getting youth away from gangs. The funds will be awarded over a three-year period. They will be used to support intensive individual and family counseling for teens in gangs or at high risk of gang involvement. Judge Carlos Quezada, of the 289th District, said the program also includes youth enrichment activities, as well as biweekly meetings with a judge.

Gold Star Mothers is an organization for mothers who have lost a son or daughter in the service of our country. The women were greeted and interviewed by Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest during a segment called the "I in Live" where someone from the audience gets to tell some of their personal story. The women were in New York City on their first Gold Star Moms Getaway to celebrate the legacy of their children who died in service. During the segment, Ripa said the women were "certainly as brave as their sons."

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – Authorities are looking for a man they say led deputies and Elmendorf police on a chase in southeast Bexar County following a shooting. Investigators with the Wilson County Sheriff's Office said the shooting stemmed from a road-rage incident off FM 1353 between people in two vans. They said a person in one van fired several shots at the driver of the other van. Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office and Elmendorf police located the van and pursued it along Loop 1604 and I-37 before crashing on Donop Road near Southton Road. Wilson County Sheriff's (Office) will (pursue charges) on the aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

SAN ANTONIO – UPDATE: Police identified the victim as Rogelio Hernandez. A 30-year-old man was injured after being attacked by a masked man with a machete on the city's West Side, police said. A masked man in dark clothing wielding a machete got out of the vehicle and attacked the victim, officers said. Police said the man wielding the machete got back into the vehicle and fled westbound on West Military Drive. Police said the victim was taken to University Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

SAN ANTONIO – A local man is recovering in the hospital after he was stabbed with a sword while trying to retrieve a borrowed laptop, San Antonio police said Wednesday. The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. in the 1300 block of Patricia on the city's North Side. According to police, the man had loaned out his laptop but when he asked for it back he was stabbed in the shoulder with the sword. The injured man was taken to an area hospital. Police said so far no one as been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

County commissioners are scheduled to formally announce a replacement for Barrientes Vela Wednesday morning, despite a lawsuit filed Monday by Barrientes Vela that attempted to block them from doing so. AdShe will remain in office until at least October 11, when a district court judge will hold a hearing on the temporary restraining order filed by Barrientes Vela. Barrientes Vela used a county credit card for the purchase, then filed an expense report and the county paid off the balance. AdAuditor records show Barrientes Vela used her county travel credit card to book a hotel room in Corpus Christi three days before the conference started. Futures in doubtCounty commissioners are scheduled to name Barrientes Vela's replacement from a list of nearly 30 applicants Wednesday.

SAN ANTONIO – A man accused of critically injuring a woman while driving drunk has been convicted on one count of aggravated assault. The jury, however, could not reach an agreement on the intoxication assault charge against Kassey Williams. He's accused of driving his car into a utility pole in June 2017 and injuring April Reyna, the passenger in his car. Williams was not hurt in the crash. A sentencing date has not been determined.

SAN ANTONIO – Defenders for a man in court accused of intoxication assault and aggravated assault spent Wednesday morning challenging forensic evidence in the case. Outside the jury’s presence, the attorney for Kassey Williams, 40, questioned the credibility of the scientific forensic evidence prosecutors planned to introduce in Williams’ trial. Dr. Veronica Hargrove, chief toxicologist of the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, testified about her results in tests done on Williams’ blood following the crash. Defense attorney George Scharmen questioned the evidence, asking whether it was either junk science or irrelevant evidence. Since the indictment includes both intoxication assault and aggravated assault allegations and the use of a deadly weapon, the car, Williams could be facing a maximum sentence of life in prison if he is convicted.
